During HGO’s 2026-27 season, Butler Studio alumna Sun-Ly Pierce performs as Siebel in Faust. Previously for the company, Pierce performed the roles of Suzuki in Madame Butterfly (2024); Jack in The Wreckers (2022); Mercedes in Carmen, Sister Mathilde in Dialogues of the Carmelites, 2nd Lady in The Magic Flute, and Stephano in Romeo and Juliet (all during the 2021-22 season); and Liesl in My Favorite Things: Songs from The Sound of Music and Hansel in HGO Digital’s Hansel and Gretel (both in the 2020-21 season). Elsewhere during the 2026-27 season, she performs as Rosina in The Barber of Seville at Santa Fe Opera and Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro at Boston Lyric Opera. Concert engagements include Houston Symphony, Boston Baroque, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and Les Musiciens du Louvre. During the 2025-26 season, Pierce performed as Rosa Saks in the world premiere of Mason Bates’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay with the Metropolitan Opera; Nefertiti in Akhnaten with LA Opera; Suzuki in Madame Butterfly with Semperoper Dresden and the Santa Fe Opera; Dorabella in Così fan tutte with Madison Opera; and Diana in La Calisto with Théâtre de Caen and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Pierce was the third-prize winner of the 2024 Operalia competition, and first prize winner in HGO’s 2020 Eleanor McCollum Competition Concert of Arias and the 2019 Marilyn Horne Song Competition.
