HGO's Cinderella

Since it was seen for the very first time—at HGO, in 2007—our production of Rossini’s Cinderella has become something of an international operatic blockbuster. The creation of Spanish director Joan Font, this Cinderella is a co-production between HGO and three other houses: Welsh National Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève in Switzerland, and Gran Teatre del Liceu in Font’s hometown of Barcelona. Companies come together this way to share costs and maximize resources.  

 

Since its debut, the production has continued to generate revenue, as other companies seek to share Font’s colorful, whimsical take on the opera with their audiences by “renting” the show to perform at their own theaters—provided they wash all the costumes before they send them back! The production has toured across two continents, including nine cities in North America—from Washington State to Washington, D.C. Trace the show’s travels over nearly two decades on the road:
