Biography

Soprano Shannon Murray is a fearless performer and emerging artist specializing in contemporary music. Her most recent work includes the creation of A Voice of One's Own (2022), an opera for four voices and electronics with music by Martikainen, as librettist and artistic director, and for which she premiered the role of Aurora. Other world premieres include Voces Fantasmas (2021), a multi-disciplinary work of music, dance, and film by J.E. Hernández, as soprano soloist, in collaboration with the Apollo Chamber Players, Houston Contemporary Dance Company, and FILMATIC, and the role of Maria Krysinska in Laura Schwendiger’sopera, Cabaret of Shadows (2022), in collaboration with MUSIQA. Her work as a soloist and collaborator has also been featured by distinguished organizations such as the Kennedy Center for the Arts, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the Moody Center of the Arts, AURA Contemporary Ensemble and PDC Works Dance Company. Murray is a Young Artist of DACAMERA, and is also a first year Teaching Artist through Houston Grand Opera's Community and Learning initiative. Murray is passionate about bringing diverse artistic experiences to the Houston community.
