During HGO's 2026-27 season, GRAMMY Award-winning bass Morris Robinson performs the role of Joe in Show Boat. Previously for the company, Robinson performed the roles of Ferrando in Il trovatore (2024), Sarastro in The Magic Flute (2015); Lodovico in Otello (2014); and Joe in Show Boat and the Commendatore in Don Giovanni (2013). Elsewhere during the 2026-27 season, Robinson makes debuts at the Hamburg State Opera as the Commendatore and at the Semperoper Dresden as The Grand Inquisitor in Don Carlo; returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Sarastro and as The Old Hebrew in Samson et Dalila; and reprises his signature role of Ramfis in Aida with Palm Beach Opera and in Adelaide, Australia, with Nicola Luisotti conducting fellow luminaries Angel Blue, Jonas Kaufmann, Elina Garanca, and Amartusvhin Enkhbat. Other appearances include the roles of Titan in the world premiere of Kevin Day’s Lalovavi with Cincinnati Opera (2026), Sparafucile in Rigoletto with Palm Beach Opera (2026), The Grand Inquisitor with The Dallas Opera (2026), Ramfis with Washington National Opera (2025), Sparafucile in Rigoletto with Cincinnati Opera (2025), Zaccaria in Nabucco with Festival Internacional de Música Sacra de Bogotá (2025), Banquo in Macbeth at Atlanta Opera (2025), and The Commander in the world premiere of Jeanine Tesori’s Grounded at Washington National Opera (2024). Robinson has performed at houses around the world, including the San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Dallas Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Seattle Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Volksoper Wien, Opera Australia, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. His solo album, Going Home, was released on the Decca label. He appears as Joe in the DVD of the San Francisco Opera production of Show Boat, and in the DVDs of the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Salome and the Aix-en-Provence Festival’s production of Mozart’s Zaide. He is Artistic Advisor at the Cincinnati Opera and sits on the Artistic Advisory Board of the Atlanta Opera. He won a GRAMMY Award for his 2022 recording of Mahler's 8th Symphony with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
