During HGO’s 2026-27 season, Michele Gamba makes his company debut conducting Aida. Elsewhere during the season, Gamba conducts La traviata at Teatro alla Scala, a new Macbeth production at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, and a symphonic concert with music by De Falla and Ravel with the Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine Orchestra. During the 2025-26 season, Gamba conducted Timon Études with Festival Verdi, Andrea Chénier with Deutsche Oper Berlin, Tosca with Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Turandot with Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. He has collaborated on several opera productions with London’s Royal Ballet and Opera, as well as symphony concerts with orchestras including the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Duisburger Philharmoniker, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, Divertimento Ensemble, and Slovenian Philharmonic. Recent engagements have seen him regularly on the podium of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Hamburg State Opera (The Marriage of Figaro), Stuttgart (La bohème and La sonnambula), Strasbourg Opera (The Barber of Seville), Toulouse Capitole (Macbeth). At Rome Opera and Berlin Deutsche Oper, he has conducted Rigoletto, and at Teatro Regio Torino, Aida. In the U.S., he opened Washington National Opera’s 2022-23 season with Il trovatore, gaining important recognition from the international critics, and had his debut at the Metropolitan Opera with a concert and The Elixir of Love, which was rated by the New York Times as the “best performance of the year 2023.”
