During HGO's 2026-27 season, Matthew Polenzani performs the title role of Faust. Polenzani made his company debut in 2023 in the title role of Werther. Elsewhere during the 2026-27 season, he performs as Don José in Carmen with Semperorer Dresden; Tito Vespasiano in La clemenza di Tito at Opéra National de Paris; and Chevalier des Grieux in Manon, Italian Singer in Der Rosenkavalier, and Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera. In the 2025-26 season, he returned to the Lyric Opera of Chicago, reprising his portrayal of Giasone in Sir David McVicar's production of Medea, and returned to the Metropolitan Opera as Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly and Don José in Carmen, a role he reprised later in the season at Teatro alla Scala; he also performed in Verdi's Requiem at Müpa and made his role debut as Riccardo in A Masked Ball at the Opéra Bastille. He performed in Massenet's Werther with Gran Teatro del Liceu and as Florestan in Fidelio with Bavarian State Opera. Polenzani performed in recital at Philadelphia's Perelman Center, singing selections by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, accompanied by pianist Ken Noda. To date, Polenzani has starred in more than 400 performances at The Met, with highlights including the premieres of Bartlett Sher's production of The Elixir of Love, Sir David McVicar's production of Maria Stuarda (issued on DVD by Erato), and McVicar's new production of Donizetti's Roberto Devereux, which was featured on PBS's Great Performances at the Met.
