Texan soprano Julia Fox embraces opera, concert and chamber performances, and premiering new music. She works to offer an “excellent performance” (Gramophone) “with dazzling effect” (Pittsburgh Stage Review) wherever she sings.
Recent stage work includes three Strauss roles–Aminta, Italienische Sänger, and Najad (cover)–with Opera Theater Pittsburgh; her house debut with Opera in the Heights as Amore (Orfeo ed Euridice) and her return as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte); playing Gretel in both of RecRoom Arts’ critically acclaimed productions (Hansel and Gretel); creating Anita (Mozart/Berti The Producer, HOPERA), Gab Sorère (Schwendinger Cabaret of Shadows, Musiqa), Polina (Goodall A Summer’s Tale US premiere, Tapestry Players), Helen (Sawyer The Scarlet Professor, Mendenhall Center) and both Angelina and Gina (Buller The Pastry Prince and The Puffed-Up Prima Donna, Houston Grand Opera’s Opera To-Go!); and playing Cinderella (Sondheim Into the Woods), Mabel (Sullivan Pirates of Penzance), and Rosa Bud (Holmes The Mystery of Edwin Drood) with Tapestry Players.
As featured soloist she has appeared locally with Mercury, Ars Lyrica, Aperio, and more; internationally in some of the world’s great venues, including the Vatican, the National Cathedral, and Carnegie Hall; and on record with labels Navona, Parma, and Raven.
Past seasons include performances with Houston Grand Opera, Opera Leggera, Midland Opera Theater, Empire Opera, enCANTA Collective, Grace Song, Inc., Foundation for Modern Music, Greenbriar Consortium, Houston Baroque, and Duo Scordatura; and artist residencies with the Banff Centre, 47 Strings, and Texas A&M University.
A native Houstonian and graduate of HSPVA and Amherst College, she apprenticed with the Brentano String Quartet and Peabody Trio, and was a Fellow with SongFest and Da Camera.
