During the 2025-26 season, Imara Miles makes her HGO debut performing as Annie in Porgy and Bess. With experience in both operatic and musical theater repertoire, Miles has performed roles including Berta in The Barber of Seville, Nettie Fowler in Carousel, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, and Lily in Porgy & Bess. Recent credits include Mercédès in Carmen, Tisbe in Cinderella, Sarah in Ragtime, and Monisha in Treemonisha with Opera Ebony. This season, she covers roles in Complications in Sue with Opera Philadelphia. Past awards and recognitions include the Mollie Shapiro Award at Des Moines Metro Opera, a District Award from the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition, and the 2022 Elizabeth Greenfield Award. Miles was named a finalist in the George Shirley Vocal Competition and a semi-finalist in the Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition, the Houston Grand Opera Concert of Arias, and the Paris Opera Competition. She was a young artist with The Glimmerglass Festival, Grant Park Music Festival, Pensacola Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Toledo Opera, and most recently, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from York College of Pennsylvania and a Master of Music degree from Indiana University.
