During the 2026-27 season, Butler Studio alumna Alicia Gianni performs as Papagena in The Magic Flute. Previously for the company, she performed as Holy St. Francis’s Trainer in the HGO Digital production Vikensport (2020), Rosalba in Florencia en el Amazonas (2019 – and on the resulting audio recording), Giannetta in The Elixir of Love (2016-17), Papagena in The Magic Flute (2015), Petra in A Little Night Music (2014), Beryl in the world premiere of Brief Encounter (2009), Musetta in performances of La bohème (2008), and Gretel in Hansel and Gretel (2006). Gianni won second prize and the Audience Choice Award in HGO’s 2006 Eleanor McCollum Competition Concert of Arias. She has been recognized for her performances on both the operatic and concert stages, including nominations for Houston’s Best Jazz Vocalist in the Houston Press Music Awards. Other opera credits include Adina in The Elixir of Love for Opera Birmingham; Despina in Così fan tutte and Fortuna/Giunone in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria with Wolf Trap Opera; and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Countess Ceprano in Rigoletto, and the title role in a concert performance of Suor Angelica as part of the summer festival in Torre del Lago, Italy. Gianni has collaborated with Houston MasterWorks, Cantare, Houston Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, The Houston Ballet, Arizona Opera, Opera Birmingham, Houston Dance Salad Festival, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, Wolf Trap Opera, Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra, Florida West Coast Symphony, and many others. She released her debut jazz album, Don't Forget to Say Goodnight, in 2017 and performs regularly with The Alicia Gianni Quartet. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from the University of Houston.
