What holiday memories do we cherish the most? Probably those that involve people we love. Composer Ricky Ian Gordon and librettist Royce Vavrek thought a lot about those memories while they worked on creating a brand new family-friendly holiday opera for HGO. Based on a beloved 1972 TV special and book, The House without a Christmas Tree tells the story of Addie, a young girl who simply wants a Christmas tree and cannot understand why her father won’t allow it. The story of how the holiday spirit healed Addie’s family touched them both deeply, but for different reasons. Find out more in this video.
Bring your loved ones young and old to The House without a Christmas Tree, November 30–December 17, 2017 at the HGO Resilience Theater at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Filled with tunes and running a little over an hour, it’s a great treat for the whole family.
