Opening Night

Performance and Celebration Dinner

Opening Night

Bizet’s Carmen on the Wortham Theater Center’s Brown Stage
Celebration Dinner follows on Ray C. Fish Plaza

Betty and Jess B. Tutor, Chairs

The curtain rises again on grand opera in Houston with sounds of celebration and live music at the Opening Night of HGO’s 67th season and Bizet’s beloved Carmen. Following the performance, festivities continue on Ray C. Fish Plaza as we usher in the next era of HGO and welcome HGO’s new General Director Khori Dastoor with dinner among artists and friends.

Brought to vibrant life by striking costumes and thrilling dance, award-winning Broadway director and choreographer Rob Ashford’s Carmen delivers a theatrical experience that is truly grand!

Opera has plenty of femmes fatales, but there’s only one Carmen! A tragedy of obsessive love, Carmen is the world’s most popular opera. You will know the melodies—the lively prelude, the smoky Habanera, the playful Seguidilla, and bewitching arias—all sung by a spectacular cast.
