ABOUT

Each year, hundreds of young singers from all over the world compete for a spot in the HGO Studio, Houston Grand Opera’s renowned young artist training program. Concert of Arias is the riveting live finals of this rigorous competition.

Each finalist performs two arias from the opera repertoire for a panel of esteemed judges. The audience votes for the Audience Choice Award and following the announcement of the six coveted prizes, patrons and artists join for dinner in the Wortham’s Grand Foyer.

Full of suspense, high stakes, audience participation, immense promise, and fun—Concert of Arias is wrapped up in a lively evening of soul-stirring music that will leave you breathless.

Proceeds from the evening benefit the future of the operatic art form through HGO Studio’s recruitment, nurturing, and support of world-class young artists.

COVID-19 Policy

Important 2021-22 Season Updates

The safety of our staff, cast, technicians, and audiences remains HGO’s first consideration as we plan our upcoming season. While there will be some changes, including the need for flexibility in seating options for the Fall Repertoire, we hope to return to normalcy—or close to it—by the holidays.   

We are grateful to have wonderful partners in Houston Methodist, who have graciously agreed to guide us as we establish safety protocols. In addition, we have consulted prominent physicians and are working in accordance with world health provider recommendations.

Additional Information

All guests attending HGO performances and events will be required to wear a mask  covering the nose and mouth while inside the Wortham Theater Center,  including while seated for a performance. No exceptions will be made. 

All guests attending fall post-performance dinner events (Jonas Kaufmann Dinner on October 6 and/or Opening Night Dinner on October 22) will be required to show one of the following:  

        • Proof of a lab-confirmed negative COVID-19 test
          • Test must be administered within 72 hours (3 days) of the performance: between October 3-6 for the Jonas Kaufmann Dinner and between October 19-22 for Opening Night Dinner.

        • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
          • You are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after you have received a second dose in a two-dose vaccine or two weeks after you have received a single-dose vaccine.

To ensure an expeditious event arrival experience for all, we are asking each Special Event dinner attendee to provide their negative test results or vaccine cards by the following dates:  

        • Negative Test Result: Please make every effort to share proof of negative result with HGO via the link above no later than noon on Wednesday, October 6 for An Evening with Jonas Kaufmann, and/or noon on Friday, October 22 for Opening Night Dinner.  
        • Proof of Vaccination: Please make every effort to provide via the link above no later than Friday, October 1 for An Evening with Jonas Kaufmann and or Monday, October 18 for Opening Night Dinner.

 

Please utilize the following link to upload a copy of your lab-confirmed negative COVID test or COVID vaccine card 72 hours prior to the event. Fill out the form in its entirety then utilize a photo or scan of your results or card.

For our fall season and opening concert, the Green Room will remain closed. HGO will reevaluate the situation prior to Winter Rep.  

For our Fall Rep and opening concert, the Founders Salon will be at a reduced capacity for pre-show dining. Diners will be required to show proof of vaccination, or a lab-confirmed negative COVID-19 test administered within 72 hours (3 days) of the performance.

 

Valet parking will be available, as always, for all Special Event attendees with your dashboard valet parking pass. Our valet team will be required to provide proof of vaccination or lab confirmed negative COVID test within 72 hours of the event as well as wear a mask while working. 

Children under the age of 12, for whom there is no currently available vaccine, are not permitted to attend a Special Events dinner regardless of the vaccination status of their guardian.
