Barrie Kosky’s imaginative production of Handel’s dramatic biblical oratorio has been critically lauded for its choruses and breathtaking design. The opera begins after David slays Goliath and follows the mental breakdown of the envious King Saul. In this stimulating and emotionally inspired production, Kosky creates a captivating drama highlighting the tension of social class and a world fraught with religious strife.
Christopher Purves returns to the title character after an acclaimed run at the Glyndeboune Festival. He is joined by HGO Studio alumni countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen and soprano Pureum Jo. HGO Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers, Margaret Alkek Williams Chair conducts.
Sung in English with projected English titles.
