About the Artist: Last season, Ryan McKinny made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Lieutenant Ratcliffe in Billy Budd, sang his first Jochanaan in Salome at New Orleans Opera, and sang Hercules in Alceste with Leipzig Opera. In concert, he returned to the Los Angeles Philharmonic as The Entertainer in the world premiere of Shostakovich’s uncompleted Orango under Esa-Pekka Salonen and directed by Peter Sellars. He is a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he has performed in Hansel and Gretel, Carmen, Lucia di Lammermoor, and The Barber of Seville. In 2010, he was named the first recipient of the Birgit Nilsson Prize for singing Wagner at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Competition. He also represented the United States in the 2007 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, where he was a finalist in the Rosenblatt Recital Song Prize.
