We are members of Houston. We are standing here with everyone else in Houston just trying to do the very best we can to help each other.
Like many Houstonians, HGO’s recovery from Hurricane Harvey has been challenging. We have set up a special fund to begin the rebuilding process and support HGO’s efforts to keep the 2017–18 season on track.
The lower levels of the Wortham Theater Center have flooded, badly damaging the Costume Shop, Wig Shop, and both stages. HGO’s administrative functions are facing major challenges. These include many hurdles for our artistic, production, and technical teams in preparing for the upcoming season, limitations in our ability to bring education programs like Opera to Go! to schools and community centers, and delays in our audience outreach efforts.
Our hearts go out to our fellow Houstonians rebuilding in the aftermath of this event. We are facing a long recovery, but we know that we are stronger together. We are a family, and we are here for each other. Each gift aides in our efforts to fully restore our organizational operations. We can’t wait to deliver a fantastic season to you, giving Houstonians the power of music and storytelling that we all need now, more than ever.

We are very sorry to have to share the news that our creative home is still in great distress, and will take much longer to repair than we originally thought.
In conversation with Houston First and Gilbane Reconstruction Services it was decided that the damage from Hurricane Harvey will take the Wortham Theater Center out of commission until at least May 15, 2018.
