Help us fill the stadium with the sound of music on May 8, 2021, for a socially distanced singalong. My Favorite Things: Songs from The Sound of Music features members of the principal cast from HGO’s originally planned full production of The Sound of Music, which the company had to cancel. Guests will get the chance to see dazzling Trinidadian soprano Jeanine De Bique as Maria and hometown favorite and baritone Michael Mayes as Captain von Trapp, along with the HGO Chorus and Orchestra. De Bique had been scheduled to make her HGO debut in the musical opposite Mayes, who was last seen at HGO in the 2019-20 season as Rigoletto.

While we did not get to perform this classic musical on the Brown Stage, we are delighted to bring its beloved classic songs to the University of Houston’s TDECU Stadium.

COVID-19 Policy

Safety is one of our favorite things

Safety for our guests, talent, crew, and staff is our top priority. The University of Houston TDECU Stadium, the HGO production team, and all vendors are following the strictest guidelines implemented by our local and state health safety officials. The UH staff, security, and facilities have strict protocols in place to ensure social distancing and protection. Please see details and FAQs below for what to expect at the event and answers to any questions. We look forward to a safe and fun night of our favorite things—and that includes you!

COVID-19 Notice

Please stay home if you suspect or recently have come into contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19, have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days before May 8, 2021, or have symptoms of cough, chills, fever, or are generally not feeling well.

Please know in any event where there are people, there is always a possible risk of exposure to COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that COVID-19 is a very contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the CDC, senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.

By attending any public event including My Favorite Things: Songs from The Sound of Music, understand that you are voluntarily assuming all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.


For the safety of all our patrons, all guests age 10+ must wear a mask. Please bring your own mask. Disposable 3-ply face masks will be available upon request.


Sanitizing stations will be accessible throughout the venue.  


Please wear a mask when going to one of the public restrooms. The restrooms at the UH TDECU Stadium are equipped with hand sanitizer. Every other sink and stall is closed to ensure extra space between guests.  The stadium cleaning staff will also be sanitizing high-touch areas before, during, and after the show. In the case of a restroom wait, there are six feet markers on the ground leading into the restroom.


UH Event Guidelines


    • The stadium will open at 6 p.m.
    • The on-stage pre-show will begin at 7 p.m.
    • The show will start at 7:30 p.m. We strongly encourage you to arrive early and on time.
    • Those with tickets will receive a confirmation email with directions and parking details.

    • The University of Houston is ticketing the event, not Houston Grand Opera. 
    • If you have issues with purchasing tickets, please contact The University of Houston's customer care team at 713-462-6647 (GOGOOGS)
    • If you have difficulty selecting seats from the map due to party size, please use the "best available tab."
    • All tickets are mobile tickets - you will not receive a physical ticket. 

    • Pre-sale tickets go on-sale for HGO donors and subscribers on March 11 at 12 p.m. CST
    • A promo code will be emailed to HGO donors and subscribers

    • There is a fee for parking
    • Parking passes can be purchased with tickets or on-site the day of the event 

    • You may leave the event at any time.
    • We do ask that you stay until the end of the event as a courtesy to our performers unless there is an emergency.
    • Look for the ushers who will direct you to an exit gate. 

    • No tickets will be sold on-site.


    • Depending on the level of ticket purchased, you may have an assigned seat, a reserved section, or general admission.
    • Event supporters via our Special Events opportunities will have an assigned Suite, Loge Box, or premium Club seats.

    • The stadium will open to the event at 6 p.m.
    • The pre-show on stage starts at 7 p.m.
    • We recommend you do not arrive later than 7 p.m. to allow time to find your seats and enjoy!

    • You can arrive after the show has started, but we please ask out of safety and courtesy to guests and performers that everyone arrives on time.

    • You may leave the event at any time.

    • TDECU Stadium is designed with accessible parking, restrooms, concessions, ATMs, and seating areas. For more information, fans can call the Houston Athletics Ticket Office at 713.GO.COOGS (462-6647). The parking map for the 2020 season can be found here.

    • Concessions will be open for food and drink purchases. 

    • Outside food and beverage are not permitted in the stadium.

    • Yes, alcohol will be available for purchase at the concessions.
    • Event supporters via our Special Events opportunities will have the option for hosted alcoholic beverages corresponding with donation level.

    • The UH TDECU Stadium, HGO production crew and additional staff, and all vendors will be following strict guidelines and a COVID Compliance Officer is overseeing the event.

    • We suggest your “favorite” attire for a May evening in Houston.
    • Lederhosen is not discouraged

    • No, My Favorite Thing: Songs from The Sound of Music will not be available for at-home viewing.
