The Rothko Welcome
Welcome to the Rothko Chapel—a center for community, spiritual growth, and social activism. Home of the Óscar Romero Awards for grassroots social justice work, this space welcomes 100,000 visitors annually from all walks of life and all around the world. Inside, the Chapel presents 14 murals by American painter Mark Rothko. Outside, Barnett Newman’s Broken Obelisk dedicated to the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. rises over a reflecting pool on the plaza. Across the street, the Welcome House and Chapel shop provide more information about the history of this sacred space and inspiration to take home. The Rothko Chapel as a complete work of art offers no singular interpretation and serves as an invitation for each visitor to develop their own unique connection to an experience that grows and evolves over time. Join us Tuesday through Sunday, 10am-6pm for regular visitation and visit rothkochapel.org to learn more about upcoming programs.
