Matthew Polenzani, making his HGO debut, has performed at leading operatic, concert, and recital venues worldwide. Polenzani began the 2021-22 season at the Metropolitan Opera with a special performance of Verdi’s Requiem, led by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Also at the Met, he starred in Julie Taymor’s acclaimed production of The Magic Flute (Tamino), and the title role Verdi’s Don Carlos, marking his role debut in a new production by David McVicar. He returned to Paris Opera as Nemorino in The Elixir of Love and later made his debut at the Canadian Opera Company as Alfredo in La traviata. He performed the role of Tito in Clemenza di Tito with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival and made his debut as Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. To date, he has starred in more than 300 performances at The Met, with highlights including the premieres of Bartlett Sher’s production of The Elixir of Love, Sir David McVicar’s production of Maria Stuarda (issued on DVD by Erato), and McVicar’s new production of Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux, which was featured on PBS’s Great Performances at the Met.
