Dear HGO Family,

As the information on the Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, our priority is to keep our HGO family– subscribers, supporters, artists, and staff—safe. For the wellbeing of all those involved, HGO will cancel our spring repertoire of Salome and The Magic Flute, as well as our free performances of Rigoletto at Miller Outdoor Theatre and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. At this time, Opera Ball will be postponed to a date in the future.

This difficult decision was made out of an abundance of caution and in compliance with the recommendations from the City of Houston and authorities from the Houston Health Department and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In addition, the current travel bans prevent key creative team members and artists from being in Houston for rehearsals and performances.

HGO is taking the lead in helping defray the impact that this cancellation has on our community of artists, musicians, stagehands, and staff. From ushers to star sopranos, HGO is committed to the livelihood of all those involved in producing great opera in Houston. We are asking for you to donate the cost of your tickets from the spring rep to help us offset the losses of those involved. This donation will be tax deductible.

Please use this form to indicate your willingness to donate your tickets to this effort – click here.

The arts bring us together and give us hope and inspiration, especially in challenging times. Following Hurricane Harvey, the message was clear that the arts matter deeply to Houstonians. Our hearts were touched by the outpouring of support, love, and positivity from our loyal subscribers and supporters, which ultimately helped HGO “weather the storm,” and return a stronger, more resilient company.

We know the same will hold true this time around, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your belief in the power of great art, and for your support of the HGO family. We can’t wait to be back in the theater, sharing great opera with you.

Our deepest thanks,

Houston Grand Opera
