Opera Camp

One of Houston's most in-demand summer camp series is coming soon! HGOco is proud to announce three unique camps designed for specific age groups and experiences, featuring collaborations with Da Camera, AFA, and SPA.

All camps are held at Houston Grand Opera 510 Preston Street located in the Wortham Theater Center.

Financial assistance is available, applications can be found in the Registration Form.

SING! MOVE! PLAY!Opera Camp1

Rising Grades K–2 | 1 Week $300, 2 Weeks $525

Let your wee one wiggle and giggle to opera's greatest tunes as the stories come to life with fun kinetic learning activities. Campers develop music and motor skills through the early fundamentals of singing and storytelling games with the help of teaching artists from HGO, and Da Camera.

You can choose to combine both sessions of Sing! Move! Play! or register for each week a la carte. Both weeks end with a special performance by the campers!

Rising Grades 3–8 | 2 Weeks $600

Create An Opera camp is the perfect place for a mini Mozart or precocious Picasso. Campers collaborate to write, design, build, and perform a one-of-a-kind musical masterpiece based on Tomie de Paola’s award-winning book, Strega Nona. This camp is perfect for singers and non-singers alike and will feature special collaborations with AFA and SPA. A final staged performance for family and friends concludes this two week long camp.

Opera Camp4

Rising Grades 9–12 | 2 Weeks $600

Join the familiar characters from the land of Oz as they sing arias from famous operas adapted especially for this new operetta, The Impresario of Oz, written especially for students in grades 9-12.

Register today to join the cast of talented high school students in this year's production. Art of Opera campers will enhance their vocal and dramatic skills by rehearsing and performing in this fully staged production.

AFA’s Camp, new in 2020, is intended for experienced vocalists who are interested in developing their skills as a whole musician. Each day will offer different classes, rehearsals and seminars with professional vocalists and experts in their fields, all focused on the vocal artist.
