Applications will be available in Monday January 19, 2026 and will remain open until Sunday, April 5, 2026 by 11:59pm.  The final round of auditions will be in person by invitation on April 18, 2026 between 9:00am and 12:30pm.

Video Submissions

Video submissions are required when submitting applications. You must submit a video link via YouTube or Vimeo featuring two different selections in the application. Otherwise, your application will not be considered for the second round of auditions. Questions regarding applications may be directed to Dr. Lisa Vickers, BFHSVS Manager, at HSVoice@HGO.org.

Additionally, applicants must secure two (2) recommendations to complete their application. One (1) must be from your high school choral or music teacher, or equivalent who can describe your musical, vocal and performance experience as well as your personal motivation. One (1) must be from another professional who can describe your work or study ethic, ability to get along with others, and level of focus/personal motivation. Recommendations from family relatives (even if they are the primary teacher or employer) are not appropriate. If a family relative is the primary music teacher, please provide a recommendation from another professional musician or music teacher. All recommenders must complete the following form and may also send an optional letter of recommendation to HSVoice@houstongrandopera.org. All recommendations must be received by Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Prescreening Requirements

• All applicants must upload two preliminary video recordings (via Youtube or Vimeo) and link their submissions to the application form.

• Selections must be from the standard vocal repertoire, performed in the original language with piano accompaniment. Repertoire may include art songs, folk song arrangements, oratorio, or operatic arias. One selection should be in English. Please choose age appropriate repertoire that showcases your voice and musical abilities.

• One musical theatre selection is allowed, but classical selections are preferred.

• All selections must be performed from memory.

• Applicants are advised to wear (for both video and live auditions) attire that supports a confident and polished performance. Business casual attire is typical; formal wear is not necessary.

• Live piano accompaniment is preferred. If using pre-recorded accompaniment, ensure that is is clearly audible.

• Videos should be recorded in landscape orientation and framed at a distance that clearly shows the performance is memorized.

• Please introduce yourself and your piece at the start of each video.

BFHSVS Masterclasses and Recitals are open to the public for the 2025-26 season! 

To attend a BFHSVS masterclass, please register by 12 PM on the Thursday before the class. We WILL NOT admit community members who do not register before the deadline.
