Biography

Previously with HGO, Steven Cole has performed as Don Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro (2023), Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2009), Remendado in Carmen (2006), Monostatos in The Magic Flute (1985), Pong in Turandot (1982), Goro in Madame Butterfly (1978), Dr. Caius in Falstaff (1978), and Nelson/Crab Man in Porgy and Bess (1976). Cole’s recent season performances include Triquet in Eugene Onegin with Opera Columbus and Opera Omaha, and Don Curzio in The Marriage of Figaro at Austin Opera. Additional operatic appearances include Don Buscone in Veremonda with the Spoleto Festival USA, performances as the narrator in a world premiere of Chris Theofanidis’s Creation/Creator with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Goro in Madame Butterfly and the Abbé de Chazeuil in Adriana Lecouvreur with Opéra de Nice, Nick in La fanciulla del West with the San Francisco Opera, the four valets in The Tales of Hoffmann with Edmonton Opera and the Canadian Opera Company, Sportin’ Life in Porgy and Bess with the Cincinnati Opera, and Monostatos in The Magic Flute at the Théatre Champs Elysées in Paris. Cole has performed domestically with the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Seattle Opera, and internationally with the Opéra National de Paris, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Opéra Comique, and the opera companies of Lyon, Nice, Marseille, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Nantes, Nancy, Geneva, and Lausanne. Additionally, he has performed at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, where he has recorded two productions for the ERATO Label: The Magic Flute and The Rake’s Progress.
