During HGO’s 2026-27 season, two-time GRAMMY award nominee, singer, and actor Rod Gilfry performs as Reverend Olin Blitch in Susannah. Previously at HGO, he performed the roles of Scarpia in Tosca (2023), Marquis de la Force in Dialogues of the Carmelites (2022), and Mr. Gower/Mr. Potter in the 2016 world premiere of Jake Heggie’s It’s a Wonderful Life. Elsewhere during the 2026-27, season he will sing Monsieur de Brétigny in Manon at the Metropolitan Opera and Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Opera Theatre of St. Louis’s world premiere of Tobias Picker’s new opera Safe Haven. In the 2025-26 season, Gilfry returned to the Metropolitan Opera as the Father-in-Law in Saariaho’s Innocence and the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, in addition to performing as Owen Hart in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking with San Francisco Opera and the Old Doctor in Barber’s Vanessa at the Spoleto Festival Dei Due Mondi. Gilfry’s most recent GRAMMY Award nomination was for his performance in the title role of Messiaen’s monumental opera Saint François d’Assise in Amsterdam. With an 80-role repertoire, Gilfry sings music from the Baroque to that composed expressly for him. Gilfry’s discography of 28 audio and video recordings includes the DVD and CD of his one-man show My Heart is So Full of You. His radio program, Opera Notes on Air, aired on K-Mozart105.1 FM in Los Angeles for over three years.
