During HGO’s 2026-27 season, Peter Relton makes his company debut serving as the revival director for Faust. He has been an opera director for more than 30 years. Most recently he has remounted La bohème for Grange Festival Opera. Also this year, he remounted Akhnaten for LA Opera and Così fan tutte for English National Opera. Last year, he remounted David McVicar’s Faust at London’s Royal Ballet and Opera. He was the associate director for the world premiere of The Hours at the Metropolitan Opera and has a long-standing working relationship with the director Phelim McDermott, whom he has assisted on renowned productions of Akhnaten, Satyagraha, and Così fan tutte. He has remounted productions at the Metropolitan Opera, LA Opera, San Francisco Opera, The Royal Ballet and Opera, and ENO. Other revivals at ENO include The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro. He directed Tosca for Grange Park Opera to open their new Opera House at West Horsley Place. He has directed Nabucco and La bohème (Dorset Opera); Die Fledermaus (Fulham Opera); La bohème, Falstaff, and La rondine (Opera North); Cavalleria rusticana and I Pagliacci (Festival de la Vezere); La voix humaine (Les Azuriales Opera Festival); La Cenerentola and Tosca (Opera Brava); The Pearl Fishers and Nabucco (Northern Opera); and The Marriage of Figaro, La traviata, The Magic Flute, and Tosca (Opera Nova).
