During HGO’s 2026-27 season, Michael Yeargan serves as the costume designer for Susannah. Previously at HGO, his costume designs were seen in Cavalleria rusticana (2008), Pagliacci (2008), Madame Butterfly (2004, 1998), Merry Widow (2003), Cold Sassy Tree (2000), Susannah (1996), Attila (1995), Carousel (1989), and Juniper Tree (1986), with his set designs seen in Rigoletto (2014, 2009, 1994) and Simon Boccanegra (2006). Elsewhere during the season, Yeargan’s set designs will be seen in Rigoletto with Berlin State Opera and Das Rheingold with San Francisco Opera. Yeargan’s designs for the Broadway musical The Light in the Piazza earned him a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award, and a Henry Hewes Award. He designed sets for the world premieres of Previn’s A Streetcar Named Desire and Heggie’s Dead Man Walking for San Francisco Opera, and Harbison’s The Great Gatsby for the Metropolitan Opera. His work has been seen at Royal Ballet and Opera, Covent Garden (Attila, Simon Boccanegra, Stiffelio, and Aida); Glimmerglass Opera (Madame Butterfly, Tosca and La finta giardiniera), the Gran Teatre del Liceu (I puritani), Lyric Opera of Chicago (The Pirates of Penzance, The Great Gatsby, Attila, Susannah, Antony and Cleopatra, and Nabucco) and Florida Grand Opera (La finta giardiniera). Yeargan is a professor of stage design at Yale School of Drama.
