During the 2026-27 season, Erhard Rom serves as the scenic and projection designer for Faust. In 2018, Rom made his HGO debut serving as set designer in Rigoletto. Rom’s designs span more than 250 productions worldwide over a career of more than three decades. In both 2025 and in 2015, he was named as a finalist in the Designer of the Year category for the International Opera Awards in London. His designs have been featured in the Prague Quadrennial International Design Exhibition and at the National Opera Center in New York City. His extensive design credits include productions for San Francisco Opera, Royal Swedish Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, Seattle Opera, Dallas Opera, Washington National Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, Glimmerglass Festival, Vancouver Opera, Minnesota Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Wolf Trap Opera, and Atlanta Opera, among many others. One of his most notable recent achievements is creating the sets and projections for a complete Ring cycle for Atlanta Opera. In 2014, Rom designed the European premiere of Silent Night for the Wexford Festival Opera, which was honored by The Irish Times Theatre Awards as both Audience Choice and Best Opera Production of the year. Rom earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of Washington and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Design from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He teaches design in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Montclair State University.
