During HGO's 2026-27 season, Brigitte Reiffenstuel serves as the costume designer for Faust. Previously for the company, she was the costume designer for Macbeth (1997). Recent productions include La Sonnambula at the Metropolitan Opera and The Italian Girl in Algiers and Julius Caesar for Deutsche Oper Berlin. Born in Munich, Reiffenstuel attended the London College of Fashion and St. Martin’s School of Art, where she studied with the acclaimed illustrator Howard Tangue. Initially focusing on fashion, she briefly worked as a stylist before gravitating toward costume design. In 2014, Reiffenstuel designed the costumes for the acclaimed Kate Bush Before the Dawn concerts in London. Today her career continues to expand into the wider fields of musicals and theater. Reiffenstuel has been nominated for several prestigious awards including the Oscar della Lirica for Achievement in Costume Design presented at the International Opera Awards. In 2015, she received the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Costume Design. She has won a 2023 Tony for Best Costume Design of a Play for Leopoldstadt and was nominated for a 2025 Tony for Best Costume Design of a Play for Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
