During HGO’s 2026-27 season, Amy Rubin serves as scenic designer for Aida. Previously for HGO, Rubin was scenic designer for the world premiere of The Snowy Day (2021). Her recent opera credits include Down in the Valley (Detroit Opera), Macbeth (Boston Lyric Opera), Highway 1 (LA Opera), Omar (LA Opera, San Francisco Opera, Spoleto), Aging Magician (New Victory Theatre, San Diego Opera), and Acquanetta (Prototype Festival, BARD). Other designs include Octet (Signature Theater/ Berkeley Rep, Drama Desk nomination), Cyrano with music by The National (The New Group); Thom Pain (based on nothing) (Signature Theater); Gloria: A Life (Daryl Roth Theatre); Miles for Mary (Playwrights Horizons, Lucille Lortel nomination). Her designs have been featured at American Repertory Theater, McCarter Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, Walker Arts Center, Curtis Institute of Music, MassMoCA, Z Space, The Kimmel Center, and in numerous TED Talks. She previously taught at Harvard University and University of Rochester and has lectured at MIT and NYU, where she received an M.F.A.
