About the Artist:
Mexican mezzo-soprano Claudia Chapa makes her HGO debut in this production of El Milagro del Recuerdo. She is an alumna of the International Vocal Arts Institute, Des Moines Metro Opera’s Apprentice Artist Program, and the Glimmerglass Festival. Recent operatic engagements include Azucena in Il trovatore with St. Petersburg Opera Company, Winter Opera St. Louis, and Opera in Williamsburg; Zita in both Gianni Schicchi and Buoso’s Ghostwith Opera Delaware and Baltimore Concert Opera; Marcellina in The Marriage of Figarowith Charlottesville Opera; Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera, Madame Flora in The Medium,and the Witch in Hansel and Gretel with Opera In the Heights; the Fairy Godmother in Alma Deutscher's Cinderella with Opera San Jose; Mary in The Flying Dutchman and Dryad in Ariadne auf Naxos with Austin Opera; Berta in The Barber of Sevillewith San Antonio Opera; Bloody Mary in South Pacificwith Gulf Coast Symphony; Hedwige in William Tellwith Opera Southwest; Mistress Quickly in Falstaff with Winter Opera St. Louis and Opera In the Heights; Marthe in Faust with Indianapolis Opera; Third Lady in The Magic Flute with the Glimmerglass Festival and Austin Opera; and Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor with Winter Opera St. Louis.
