Cecilia Duarte created the role of Renata in Houston Grand Opera’s world premiere of Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, the world’s first mariachi opera, touring with it to the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Diego Opera, Arizona Opera, and most recently New York City Opera. She has created roles in several other world premieres at HGO including Gracie in A Way Home (HGOco world premiere, 2010), Jessie Lydell in A Coffin in Egypt (HGO world premiere, 2014), First responder/Harriet in After the Storm (HGOco world premiere, 2016), Alicia in Some Light Emerges (HGOco world premiere, 2017)

Cecilia's roles also include Zerlina in Don Giovanni, the Angel in Handel’s Jephtha, Isabella in Rappaccini’s Daughter, Loma Williams in Cold Sassy Tree, Tituba in The Crucible, and most recently, Sarelda in John Musto’s The Inspector. An early music enthusiast, Duarte often performs with ArsLyrica Houston, the Bach Society, the Oregon Bach Festival, the Festivalensemble in Stuttgart, and Mercury Houston. Future engagements include Renata in Cruzar la Cara de la Luna with the Fort Worth Opera.
