What does home mean to you? Is it where you were born or where you will be laid to rest? Is it a food, a style of music, or a scent in the air?
Performed against the backdrop of Mark Rothko's majestic
canvases, this unique concert explores themes of home, family and life, and the difficulties faced by
families divided by borders.
Featured performers include vocalists Cecilia Duarte and
Vanessa Cerda-Alonzo, original cast members of the world's first
Mariachi Opera Cruzar la Cara de la Luna/To Cross the Face of
the Moon. Guitarist José Pecina and pianists Ana María
Otamendi and John Cornelius complete the roster of musicians for
these two events.
The program includes
music from Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, classical
Spanish songs and traditional Mariachi in Spanish and
English. This collaborative event
integrates the Rothko Chapel's longstanding commitment to human
rights and intercultural dialogue with HGOco's mission to build community through stories told with words and music.
