Georges Bizet's Carmen
Sung in French with projected English translation

April 25, 2014 - 7:30 p.m. | April 27, 2014 - 2:00 p.m. | April 30, 2014 - 7:30 p.m.
May 2, 2014 - 7:30 p.m. | May 4, 2014 - 2:00 p.m. | May 8, 2014 - 7:30 | May 10, 2014 - 7:30 p.m.

The femme fatale is ubiquitous in literature, from the biblical Delilah to Shakespeare's Cleopatra to the smoky, dangerous beauties of the film noir era. But none embody this character like the Gypsy Carmen, a sexual bird of prey whose charms lead Don José into a fatalistic chain of events, uncontrollable passion, jealousy, and bloodshed.

"[Ana María Martínez] brought off both of her arias to stunning effect and received properly thunderous ovations." - Chicago Tribune

"A revelation ... [Brandon Jovanovich sang with] perfect diction, healthy singing, elegant, and with the stamp of a true tenor, always covered high notes." - Corriere Della Sera (Milan)

"With flashy self-assurance in his entrance and bass-baritonal penetrating power, McKinny offered the ideal portrayal of the Toreador." - Klassik Radio (Frankfurt am Main, Germany)
