FAQs

How do I make payment?

Payment is due 2 weeks before the performance. To process payment, please call our Customer Care representatives at 713-228-OPERA (6737) or make a check payable to Houston Grand Opera and mail to 510 Preston Street, Houston, TX 77002. If you need an exception to pay the invoice post-performance, please let us know right away. If your school needs a quote or receipt, please email Community@HGO.org. All cancellations and changes must be made no later than four weeks prior to the performance date in order to receive a refund. Title I schools receive a 50% discount. 

When should my group plan to arrive at the Wortham Theater Center?

Student matinee performances begin promptly at 10:00 AM, attendees should plan to arrive between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM. High School Night performances begin promptly at 7:00 PM, attendees should plan to arrive between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM.

How do we get to the Wortham Theater Center?

All buses are required to drop off students at 551 Prairie Street, or as directed by the Houston Police Department.  Immediately after the students are dropped off, buses should proceed to the bus parking area provided at the time of drop-off. If your driver is intending to see the show with your group, they will need to pay for parking at a location of their own choosing.

How will I know where my school will be seated?

We do not issue tickets; your entire group must be present to be seated. Seats are reserved in the order each group reserved tickets. When you arrive at the Wortham Theater Center, you will be directed to your seats by HGO ushers and seated in your group’s designated area.

Can we bring our lunches with us?

Food and drink are not permitted inside the Wortham Theater Center. All lunches should be left on the bus or in your vehicle. If you are planning to have lunch after the performance, you may enjoy them down by the Bayou or on Fish Plaza. Wortham Theater Center concessions will be open before all High School Night performances and at intermission.

Do you have classroom preparation tools to study before we arrive at the opera?

Teachers will receive a curriculum-based study guide to help prepare students and teachers for the opera via email.

What is the dress code?

We do not enforce a dress code. Some students opt to dress up, some students wear their school uniform or clothing the student would otherwise wear to school. We want each student to be comfortable!
