Shon Sims sings Spoletta in Puccini’s Tosca this season. He made his Houston Grand Opera debut in 2004 as the Pilot in Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince and was last heard at HGO as Borsa in Rigoletto. He was also tenor soloist in last season’s original production Chorus! As a baritone, the Texas native appeared in the Rossini roles of Dandini in La Cenerentola with Sugar Creek Symphony and Song and Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Seattle Opera and Utah Festival Opera. Frequent appearances at New York City Opera included Schaunard in Puccini’s La bohème, Fiorello in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Moralès in Bizet’s Carmen, and Prince Yamadori in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. Sims made his European debut as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia with the Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos in Lisbon and went on to sing Russell Paxton in Weill’s Lady in the Dark with the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and with Teatro dell’Opera in Rome.
