About the Artist: Rachel Willis-Sørensen was a winner of the 2010 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and winner of the 2011 Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition, earning the top honors in both the opera and operetta categories. Earlier this season, she returned to the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, as Gutrune in Götterdämmerung under Antonio Pappano, and sang her role debut as Elettra in Idomeneo at the Semperoper Dresden, where she is a member of the ensemble. Later this season in Dresden, she will make her role debut as Rachel in La juive. During the 2011-12 season, she made her Royal Opera, Covent Garden, debut as the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro under Antonio Pappano, the role in which she also made her Michigan Opera Theatre debut. She made her debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 under Leonard Slatkin at the Hollywood Bowl, appeared at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, and sang Licenza  in Christopher Alden's production of Mozart's rarely heard Il sogno di Scipione with the Gotham Chamber Opera. Highlights of future seasons include leading roles at Semperoper Dresden; the Royal Opera, Covent Garden; San Francisco Opera; Houston Grand Opera; and the Salzburg Easter Festival.
