Bass-baritone and HGO Studio alumnus Ryan McKinny was last seen at HGO in last season’s productions of Chorus!, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Beatrice and Benedict. He has also appeared with HGO as Mr. Flint (Billy Budd), Sam (A Masked Ball), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Ramfis (Aida), Peter (Hansel and Gretel), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Zuniga (Carmen) and as a soloist in the world premiere of Christopher Theofandis’s The Refuge. This season Mr. McKinney will make two role debuts at Los Angeles Opera: Leone in Handel’s Tamerlano with Placido Domingo and Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia. In the spring, he will make his European operatic debut at Deutsche Oper Berlin as Escamillo in Carmen and as Hercules in Peter Konwitschny’s new production of Handel’s Alceste for Leipzig Opera. He will also perform the bass-baritone solo in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex with the Sydney Festival in Sydney, Australia.
