NOVEMBER 14 at noon - WFMT

An opera in three acts
Music by Giuseppe Verdi
Libretto by Francesco Maria Piave
Sung in Italian

Court jester Rigoletto does everything in his power to protect his daughter from the licentious duke who has charmed her. Sometimes, though, a parent’s protective instincts can prove more harmful than their cause.

“[Albina Shagimuratova’s] radiant soprano dispatches the gorgeous lines and elaborate ornamentation with agility and flair, glistening in her top notes, virtuosic in her trills and flourishes.”Houston Chronicle

A bitter court jester pits himself against his master in a hopeless effort to protect his daughters virtue. Three shining young artists—Studio alums Scott Hendricks and Albina Shagimuratova, along with Eric Cutler—star as the hunchback Rigoletto, his adored daughter Gilda and the lecherous, remorseless Duke of Mantua. Patrick Summers conducts Verdis distinguished tragedy.
