Raymond Aceto

Bass Raymond Aceto (Baron Scarpia) was last seen at HGO as Sparafucile in performances of last season’s production of Rigoletto, a role he has also sung at Royal Opera, Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera. Other HGO credits include Sarastro in The Magic Flute, the Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Jacopo Fiesco in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, Seneca in Monteverdi’s The Coronation of Poppea, Escamillo in Carmen, Pimen in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov and Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor. Earlier this season he appeared at the Dallas Opera as Lodovico in Verdi’s Otello. Other notable credits include Escamillo in Carmen at Vienna State Opera; Ramfis in Verdi’s Aida and Fiesco in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra at Deutsche Oper Berlin; Tsargo in Kaija Saariaho's Adriana Mater at the Santa Fe Opera. He also appeared as Ferrando in Verdi’s Il trovatore at Royal Opera, Covent Garden and the Teatro Real in Madrid; and, at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Fafner in Wagner’s Das Rheingold and Siegfried, the Old Hebrew in Samson et Dalila, Nourabad in Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles, Alaska Wolf Joe in Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny. A frequent artist at the Metropolitan Opera, his credits there include the Verdi roles Zaccaria (Nabucco) and the King of Egypt (Aida), the Commendatore in Don Giovanni. A graduate of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Program for Young Artist Development, Mr. Aceto is a two-time recipient of the Richard Tucker Foundation Career Grant and has also received a Sullivan Foundation Award. Upcoming engagements include Hunding in Die Walküre at San Francisco Opera, Daland in The Flying Dutchman at New Orleans Opera, and Zaccaria in Verdi’s Nabucco at the San Diego Opera.
