Patricia Racette

Soprano Patricia Racette makes her role debut as Floria Tosca this winter. The soprano made her Houston Grand Opera debut in 1999 as Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata and has since appeared at HGO as Alice Ford in Falstaff, Cio-Cio-San in Madame Butterfly, the title role in Jenufa, Elisabetta in Verdi’s Don Carlo, Love Simpson in the world premiere of Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree, and Margherita in Boito’s Mefistofele. Ms. Racette maintains strong relationships with the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera (where she is an alumna of the Merola Opera Program and a former Adler Fellow), Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, and the Santa Fe Opera. Earlier this year she sang all three leading roles in Puccini’s Il trittico—Giorgetta in Il tabarro, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi and the title role of Suor Angelica—at both San Francisco Opera and the Metropolitan Opera. She also created the leading role Leslie Crosbie in the world premiere of The Letter by Paul Moravec at the Santa Fe Opera. Ms. Racette has appeared at Royal Opera, Covent Garden; Paris Opera; Teatro alla Scala; the Teatro Comunale in Bologna; Genoa Opera; Vienna State Opera; Welsh National Opera; and the Saito Kinen Festival, among others. Next season, she returns to the Met, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the San Diego Opera in the title role of Madama Butterfly, and sings Ellen Orford at Washington National Opera.
