Philip Cutlip

Baritone Philip Cutlip makes his role debut as Joseph De Rocher in Dead Man Walking by Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally at HGO this winter. He was last heard here as Ariodates in Handel’s Xerxes last season. Mr. Cutlip’s engagements this season include Enrico in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Papageno in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at Seattle Opera, as well as concert engagements with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (Haydn’s Creation), Boston Symphony Orchestra (Falla’s Suite from Atlantida: El amor brujo), and the Minnesota Orchestra (Handel’s Messiah).  Mr. Cutlip recently appeared in the title role of Philip Glass's Orphée with Portland Opera and has sung Zurga in Les Pêcheurs de perles at Minnesota Opera, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte with Jacksonville Opera Theatre, Tarquinius in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia with Toledo Opera and Valentin in Gounod’s Faust with Washington Concert Opera. Other career highlights include Marcello in Puccini’s La bohème, Maurice Bendix in Jake Heggie’s The End of the Affair at Seattle Opera, and Mattieux in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
