About the Artist: Carfizzi will sing the role of Schaunard in La bohème (the Metropolitan Opera), Papageno in Die Zauberflöte (Dallas Opera), and Henry Kissinger in Nixon in China (San Francisco Opera) this season. Notable roles have included Peter Quince in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Masetto and Leporello in Don Giovanni, Schaunard in La bohème, the Mandarin in Turandot, Brander in La damnation de Faust, Taddeo in L’italiana in Algeri, Dr. Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Talbot in Maria Stuarda, Pandolfe in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Frank in Die Fledermaus, Betto in Il trittico — Gianni Schicchi, and Nourabad in Les pêcheurs de perles. He has appeared with the Metropolitan, San Francisco, Seattle, Central City, Glimmerglass, Minnesota, and Dallas operas. Additional appearances include those with Canadian Opera Company, Oper Köln, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. In concert, he has appeared with Opera Orchestra of New York, Washington Concert Opera, the Seattle and San Francisco symphonies, and at the Mostly Mozart and Tanglewood festivals. A graduate of the Yale University School of Music, Carfizzi has won the Richard Tucker Career Grant, George London, and Sullivan Foundation awards. He is a recipient of The Richard F. Gold Career Grant from The Shoshana Foundation and the Sergio Franchi Memorial Scholarship from the National Italian American Foundation. He was the Connecticut District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
