About the Artist: Marietta Simpson has sung with major orchestras throughout the world and has performed with many of the world's leading conductors, including Simon Rattle, Kurt Masur, Daniel Barenboim, David Robertson, and the late Robert Shaw. Her discography includes several recordings with Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Grammy Award-winning recording of William Bolcom's Songs of Innocence and Experience. Career highlights include Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Boston Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra; Elijah and Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with New York Philharmonic; Szymanowski's Stabat Mater with Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw Orchestra; and Messiah with Philadelphia Orchestra. On the operatic stage, she has performed Maria in Porgy and Bess with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, and Los Angeles Opera; Dominga de Adviento in the world premiere of Peter Eötvös's Love and Other Demons with Glyndebourne Festival Opera; and leading roles with the Royal Opera, Covent Garden. Recent engagements include singing as soloist in Bruckner's Te Deum and Tippett's A Child of Our Time, both with Collegiate Chorale. She is currently an associate professor of voice at Indiana University.
