Matthew Rose

Bass Matthew Rose appears as Raimondo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor this winter. He gave a memorable performance in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream here at HGO in 2009. Mr. Rose’s recent credits include Nick Shadow in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress and Mr. Flint in Britten’s Billy Budd at Glyndebourne; Harašta in Janácek’s The Cunning Little Vixen at Royal Opera, Covent Garden; Montano in Verdi’s Otello at the Barbican Center in London; Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Santa Fe Opera; and Bottom at Teatro alla Scala. He has also sung Polyphemus in Handel’s Acis and Galatea at Royal Opera, Covent Garden. A former member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at Royal Opera, Covent Garden, his extensive credits there include Collatinus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Masetto in Don Giovanni and Jonas Fogg in Sondheim’s Sweeny Todd. Mr. Rose appears regularly at the Edinburgh Festival and recently made his debut at the BBC Proms in Haydn’s Heiligmesse. He is an alumnus of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme in Aldburgh.
