About the Artist: Marco Berti has sung in the world’s major opera houses (La Scala; Royal Opera, Covent Garden; Metropolitan Opera; Paris Opera and many others) under such conductors as Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Zubin Metha, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Antonio Pappano, Daniel Oren, Patrick Summers, James Conlon, and Nicola Luisotti. His Verdian repertoire, in addition to the roles he has performed for Houston Grand Opera, includes the title roles in Otello and Ernani as well as Riccardo in A Masked Ball. His Puccini repertoire includes Calaf in Turandot, Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut, Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, Cavaradossi in Tosca and the title role in the rarely performed Edgar. Other important repertoire includes Don José in Carmen and Canio in Pagliacci. Berti recently made his role debut as Pollione in Norma (Turin) and sang Radames at the Arena di Verona. Engagements for the 2012–13 season include three different productions at the Metropolitan Opera (Il trovatore, Turandot, and Aida) and Tosca at Paris National Opera. Two solo CDs by Berti are scheduled for release in 2012. In September 2011, the Style supplement to the venerable Milanese daily newspaper Corriere della Sera named Berti among the top four tenors in the world.
