Leonard Foglia has enjoyed a long and fruitful collaboration with composer Jake Heggie, having directed the Houston Grand Opera world premiere of Three Decembers, which he subsequently directed at San Francisco Opera and Chicago Opera Theater. He also directed the world premiere of Heggie’s The End of the Affair at HGO, and subsequently in Madison and Seattle, as well as the Dallas Opera world premiere of Moby Dick. His production of Dead Man Walking has been presented at numerous opera companies throughout the U.S. including New York City Opera, Opera Pacific, Cincinnati Opera and Pittsburgh Opera. On Broadway, he directed Terrence McNally’s Master Class, which was also presented at The Kennedy Center for the Arts, in London’s West End and on a U.S. tour. Mr. Foglia’s other Broadway credits include Thurgood, which was also presented by the Kennedy Center and Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles; On Golden Pond which was also presented at the Kennedy Center and on a U.S. tour and Wait Until Dark. His Off-Broadway and regional credits include Anna Deavere Smith's Let Me Down Easy at Second Stage and on U.S. tour, The Stendhal Syndrome at Primary Stages, One Touch of Venus at City Center in New York, Unusual Acts of Devotion at Philadelphia Theater Company, Distracted at the Mark Taper Forum and The Subject was Roses at the Kennedy Center. He is co-author, with David Richards, of the mystery novels 1 Ragged Ridge Road, Face down in the Park, El Sudario and its sequel La Sangre del Sudario. Most recently he wrote the book and co-wrote the lyrics for HGO’s 41st world premiere To Cross the Face of the Moon / Cruzar la Cara de la Luna (November – December 2010), for which he also served as director.
