About the Artist: Kevin Ray was a Merola Young Artist at San Francisco Opera (2010) and an apprentice artist at The Santa Fe Opera (2009, 2011) where he appeared in the world premiere of Paul Moravec’s The Letter and as the Poet in Menotti’s The Last Savage. He was the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. He has received awards from the Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition, the Wagner Society of New York, the Licia Albanese–Puccini Foundation, and the Liederkranz Foundation. He was a Grand Finalist for the Metropolitan National Council Auditions in 2012. Last summer, he sang the title role in Britten’s Peter Grimes with Chautauqua Opera and Don José in Carmen at the Lyrique-en-Mer/Festival de Belle-Île. Upcoming engagements include Weinberg’s The Passenger with Lincoln Center Festival, Don José in Carmen with Wolf Trap Opera, and his return to HGO next season in Otello, A Christmas Carol, and The Magic Flute. He will also participate in this summer’s International Wagner Competition.
