About the Artist: Joel Prieto came to the public's attention after winning first prize, the Zarzuela Prize and the Cultur Arte Prize in Plácido Domingo's 2008 Operalia Competition. He was a member of Deutsche Oper Berlin from 2006 to 2008, where his roles included Tamino in The Magic Flute, Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, and Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor. In July 2008, Prieto joined Domingo for performances of the zarzuela Luisa Fernanda conducted by Joseph Caballé at Theater an der Wien. Also in 2008, he was chosen as a member of the first Montblanc Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival, where he performed in the Gala Concert with the Mozarteum Orchestra under Ivor Bolton. Appearances since then include Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Silvio in L'arbore de Diana, and Prince Giovanni in Una cosa rara (Palau de les Arts, Valencia); Arlecchino in Pagliacci (Teatro Municipal, Santiago); Fenton in Falstaff (house debut with the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, also in Barcelona and Toulouse); Tamino (Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin); Don Ottavio (Salzburg Festival and in Bari, Italy); and Ferrando (house debuts with the Bavarian State Opera and Washington National Opera). Current and future plans include Belfiore in La finta giardiniera and the Italian Singer in Der Rosenkavalier with Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin; Ernesto in Don Pasquale in Rome; Nemorino in The Elixir of Love in Galicia; and Fenton in Falstaff and Narraboth in Salome with Deutsche Oper Berlin.
