About the Artist: Johannes Leiacker has designed sets and costumes for all leading German opera houses and for those of Amsterdam, Antwerp, Barcelona, Brussels, Helsinki, London, Copenhagen, Lyon, Madrid, and Paris. He has also designed for the Vienna State Opera, Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Los Angeles Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation, and Salzburg Festival. In 2007, he designed the set for the Bregenz Festival’s Tosca that was seen in the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace. Honors include the art award of North Rhine–Westphalia (1984), two Designer of the Year awards from the critics of the magazine Opernwelt (1996, 2009), and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production for Tristan and Isolde at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden (2010). For several years, he was a professor at the University of Art in Dresden, teaching set and costume design.
