Houston Grand Opera Studio alumnus Jon Kolbet sings Don Basilio in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and the Major Domo in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos at HGO this spring. He appeared at HGO earlier this season as Howard Boucher in Heggie’s Dead Man Walking. Mr. Kolbet has sung the roles of Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro at Utah Opera. His recent credits include Monostatos in Mozart’s The Magic Flute with Eugene Opera, Goro in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly with L'Opéra de Montréal and San Francisco Opera, Mayor Upford in Britten’s Albert Herring and Jove/Eumete in Monteverdi’s The Return of Ulysses with Portland Opera, and The Witch in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and the Snake and the Vain Man in Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince at Tulsa Opera. He has also sung Red Whiskers in Britten’s Billy Budd with Washington National Opera and Don Curzio in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro with Los Angeles Opera and the Dallas Opera.
