About the Artist: Winner of the 2006 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award and the Verbier Festival Academy’s 2008 Prix d’Honneur, Hopkins’ roles this season include Argante in a new Robert Carsen production of Handel’s Rinaldo (Glyndebourne Opera Festival) and Figaro in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia (Vancouver Opera and Lyric Opera of Kansas City). Concert engagements include Handel’s Messiah (Ann Arbor Symphony and Mercury Baroque Orchestra), Bach’s Magnificat (Orchestra of St. Luke’s and Robert Spano) at Carnegie Hall, and Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3 and Mozart’s Mass in C minor (New York Philharmonic and Alan Gilbert). In future seasons, Hopkins will return to the Metropolitan Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Houston Grand Opera, and Dallas Opera, as well as make debuts with Glyndebourne Opera's summer festival and Washington National Opera. Highlights of past seasons include performances in A Quiet Place for New York City Opera, Die Zauberflöte at the Arizona and Santa Fe operas, Roméo et Juliette for Dallas Opera, Così fan tutte at Madison Opera, Le nozze di Figaro at Opera Pacific, Faust with Calgary Opera, and The Rape of Lucretia with Central City Opera. Further highlights have included a Metropolitan Opera debut in Turandot, Die Zauberflöte at Opera Lyra Ottawa and Santa Fe Opera, Capriccio at Pacific Opera Victoria, Il barbiere di Siviglia at Arizona Opera, and Albert Herring at Santa Fe Opera. Hopkins toured North America with Bernard Labadie and Les Violons du Roy offering Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Handel’s Messiah in Quebec, Montreal, Los Angeles, and at Carnegie Hall. Under the auspices of the Marilyn Horne Foundation, he appeared in recital at the Santa Fe Concert Association and, in conjunction with the Gilmore Festival, presented recitals in Michigan. Highlights of his concert schedule have included performances with the Cleveland and National Arts Centre orchestras, with Hans Graf and the Houston Symphony, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Ensemble Arion under Bernard Labadie, and with the Calgary Philharmonic and Edmonton Symphony orchestras. Hopkins has given solo recitals at Carnegie Hall under the auspices of the Vancouver Recital Society and in Toronto in conjunction with The Aldeburgh Connection. He gave the world premiere of Michael Tilson Thomas’ Rilke Songs at Zankel Hall in New York and joined Barbara Bonney for performances of songs by three generations of Mozart (Leopold, Wolfgang Amadeus, and Franz Xaver) under the auspices of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Hopkins was a prize winner at the ARD Musikwettbewerb of 2006, at the 2005 Plácido Domingo Operalia Competition held in Madrid, and, in 2002, José Carreras presented him with the first place prize in the Julián Gayarre International Singing Competition. He is the recipient of prizes from the George London Foundation, the Sylva Gelber Foundation Award of the Canada Council for the Arts, and from the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation. Hopkins records in an exclusive relationship with ATMA Classique with his first recital disc released in 2010.
